Real Stories: Service in Action

I’ve been thinking a lot about service lately, and the role it’s played in my life in the past two decades. As I’ve shared in my campaign launch video, I had a bumpy adolescence which thankfully, led me to recovery circles as a very young person. One of the tenants of recovery is mentoring folks as they move their lives forward. Because of this, I started working as a volunteer mentor for the first time when I was 14, and I immediately caught the bug for service and helping people find their way in our complicated web of systems. In the past two decades, I’ve had the incredible privilege of mentoring close to 100 people in all stages of life, and walking shoulder to shoulder with them as they identify and achieve their dreams.

Because of these deep longitudinal relationships, I have a very clear picture of the issues everyday people are facing, and how to navigate and change the intersecting systems that prevent us all from thriving.

Bringing the lived experience of our community into the policy conversations that drive our state forward has been foundational for the work I’ve done for my whole career. I hope I get the opportunity to continue to bring the stories, resilience, strength, and hope of our community to the Capitol as your next State Representative.
